A trip into the religious heartland of Bhutan will help you discover the secrets that keep the Buddhist religion alive and vibrant in Bhutan. Explore and uncover the legends of the great Tantric master Guru Rinpoche as you travel to the beautiful valley of Bumthang. Listen to the legends associated with one of Bhutan’s most eccentric saints, Lam Drukpa Kuenley, who is also known as “the Divine Mad Man”. This tour package also involves a detour through the habitat of the rare and endangered Black Necked Cranes in the Phobjikha valley. We end the trip at the scenic Paro valley often referred to as the “Rice Bowl of Bhutan”.

Itinerary

DAY 1SINGAPORE > GAU > PARO AIRPORT, BHUTAN (KB541 SIN/PBH 0630HRS /1030HRS) (L/D)

Drive to Thimphu, which is 65 kilometers and takes about 1 hour. You would be stopping for picturesque scene along the way with the first stop at the ruins of one old traditional house in Shaba. With stop at Tachog Lhakhang which is famously know for its iron bridge build by one of the saint around 12th Century. Further you will stop at the confluence of Thimphu-Paro River, this river flows to Chukkha where 1800 MU of electricity is generated. Sightseeing in Thimphu would include; The Memorial Chorten build in memory of 3rd King of Bhutan, Later you can visit Handicrafts and local crafts shops. By evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, fortress of the glorious religion. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

DAY 2THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING (B/L/D)

Morning visit Changangkha Monastery which is the oldest monastery in around Thimphu valley, Buddha Doerdema (is one of the largest Buddha made of Bronze), the National Library. The folk heritage museum houses variety and volume of books both History and religion, The School of Zorig Chhusum- a school of traditional crafts and Folk Heritage Museum. Dinner will be served at Farm house and try national costume.

DAY 3THIMPHU – PUNAKHA (B/L/D)

After breakfast drive to Punakha, which is 75 kilometer away and will take approximately 4 hours to reach. On the way to Punakha you will drive by Dochula Pass with picturesque landscape and visit the new Druk Wangyal Monastery, which is the only of its kind in the country with elaborate paintings depicting the lineage of the present monarchy and their visionary works. Later driving downhill and towards Punakha visit Chimmi Lhakhang, the famous monastery of the famous saint known as the Drukpa Kinley (also called the devine madman). This fertility monastery is known to bless couple with child.

DAY 4PUNKHA - PHOBJIKA VALLEY (60 KM; 4 HRS) (B/L/D)

Morning visit Pungtang Dechen Phodrang Dzong or commonly known as Punakha Dzong. It was constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637-38. It is the winter home of Bhutan’s Central Monastic Body. The Dzong houses the most sacred relics of the Southern Drukpa Kagyu school including the Rangjung Kasarpani, and the sacred remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and other great saint. It also known for the coronation of the kings of Bhutan. You may take your time inside the Dzong to see the beautiful and unique architect of Bhutan. Later drive towards east of Bhutan and on the way to you will drive by several village and picturesque landscape. Phobjikha or Gangtey is famously known for the roosting ground of endangered Black Nacked Crane.
After reaching Gangtey, visit the only Pedling tradition Monastery in Bhutan.

DAY 5GANGTEY TO BUMTHANG (188 KILOMETERS, 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)

Morning visit the Crane Center to learn more about these rare birds. However, there will be no birds around this time of year and you can visit the conservation office there. Later drive to Bumthang crossing 3300 meter high Pelela Pass, its little narrow highway ahead, but don’t worry you will get use to with the road after few hours. Along the way, you will drive vai Trongsa district and stop to visit the Trongsa Dzong, another masterpiece of Bhutan architecture. It also have very rich cultural heritage history associated with this dzong. Later on, the war stop at a yathra (textile weaving) factory, where the yathras are designed with patterns unique to Bumthang, and you can even watch some of the weavers at their looms.

DAY 6BUMTHANG SIGHTSEEING (B/L/D)

Sightseeing in Bumthang includes Jakar Dzong, the administrative center of the valley; Kurjey Lhakhang, one of the most sacred places of Bhutan and it is the place where Guru Rinpoche left his body imprint on the cave while meditating. Later after lunch, you will be visiting Jambay Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang, a treasure house of interesting religious Buddhist paintings and the Kuenchussum Monastery.

DAY 7THARPALING MONASTERY HIKE (B/L/D)

This excursion begins with 30 minute drive to Lamigompa. The hike starts with gradual climb through the chirpine forest. Through this hike we will see the entire Chumey Valley. Walk down to the Chumey Village and our car and driver will wait for us here to take us back to the hotel. The hike will take about 5hours. We strongly recommend this hike as it give you an insight of traditional trek route between Trongsa and Bumthang (the Royal Heritage Trail) finishing with a wonderful view of Jakar Dzong.
Or witness the festivals around Bumthang (if only coincide with the dates).
Today we will have a picnic lunch at the valley of Bumthang.

DAY 8BUMTHANG – PARO (B/L/D)

Fly from Bumthang and will take 35 minutes to reach to Paro.
The domestic flight is an opportunity for you to view the overall picture of the green lush valley of Bhutan, the Himalayan at its grandest. Please do not forget to take a camera onboard and just click as much as you can, it’s an opportunity of a life time.Sightseeing in Paro includes visiting Museum, Kyichu Temple and Paro Dzong and later walk around Paro Town.
You may opt to stay at the Palace turned farmhouse or you just opt to have dinner there.

DAY 9EXECUSION AT TAKTSHANG (B/L/D)

After breakfast, you will hike to Taktsang or the “Tiger’s Nest” Monastery perched precariously on the cliff 900m above Paro valley. It is the most famous monastery in Bhutan. Guru Rinpoche, the 8th century spiritual master is said to have flown on the back of tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. Explore the monastery, and if you wish, you can sit for a short meditation before you hike down to the valley floor. Packed picnic lunch will be organized as at cafeteria in the mid-way is little poor in quality.

DAY 10DEPARTURE PARO > GAU > SINGAPORE (KB540 SIN/PBH 0730HRS /1535HRS) (B)

You will wake little early to fly Singapore. It fly’s from Paro at 07:30 Hrs and arrive at Singapore at 15:35 Hrs.
Your discovery of Bhutan will end today. Have a safe trip back home.
